Five signs of a phishing message pretending to be your bank
Learn to recognise the warning signs of a fraudulent SMS, email or call before you respond.
Phishing attempts are designed to create urgency so you act before you think. Here is what to look out for.
Urgency and threats. "Your account will be blocked in 24 hours" is a common pressure tactic.
Requests for PINs, passwords or one-time codes. Cairo Bank Uganda staff will never ask for these.
Links that do not match our domain. Hover over or long-press a link to check it actually points to cbu.co.ug before tapping.
Unusual sender details. A slightly misspelled name or an unfamiliar number pretending to be the Bank.
Requests to move money to a "safe" or "verification" account. This is never a legitimate Bank process.
If you are unsure, do not click, reply, or call back a number provided in the suspicious message. Instead, contact us directly on 0800 211 025 using the number from our official website or the back of your card.
Please note: Cairo Bank Uganda will never ask for your PIN, password, card CVV or one time code. If you receive a message asking for any of these, contact us immediately.
